Minimising our impact on the environment
At Green End Farm we are taking small steps to make our business more sustainable. Being just a little bit more mindful in our choices will help protect our impact on this beautiful part of the world. Small changes in our daily lives like reducing waste, green energy and shopping local can all add up to a big difference.
Keeping it Local
At Green End Farm where possible we use the best local suppliers for our food menus and welcome packs. We have two fabulous local butchers – Radford’s in Sleights and Jacksons in Ruswarp, who supply bacon and sausages for our breakfast boxes and meat for our dinner menu.
Our bread is either homemade or from the famous Whitby Bothams Bakery. At Green End our eggs come from our very own hens, who roam freely around the farm.
In 2022 we started to work with a local bee keeper in Egton.
A champion gooseberry grower and honey maker he supplies us with the most wonderful honey from bees that feed on the local moors heather and flowers.
Cosy Cottage
Enjoy the soaps in your holiday barns, these are from The Cosy Cottage based in Malton. Well worth a visit to stock up on beautiful toiletries and candles that are plastic, paragon and palm oil free.
Our food menu at the farm changes regularly. We are blessed with an abundance of wild garlic in spring, elderflower in the summer and wild mushrooms in autumn. In our kitchen garden we grow a variety of fruit and vegetables, including apples, pears, rhubarb, courgettes, spinach, chard, salads and tomatoes, all for use in our dinner menus.

Energy
Our primary energy source is electricity. Each barn is heated by underfloor heating powered by a ground source heating system. This heating source is made up of 100’s of meters of pipes under our fields to harness the earths nature heat and transfer that to the barns to warm the rooms and heat the water.
Each room in the barns has its own thermostat to help reduce energy waste and keep each room at the right temperature. All our barns are fully insulated to help us conserve energy.
Encouraging Wildlife
In 2021, in conjunction with the North York Moors National Park, we planted over 4,000 trees at the farm. These will be the trees of the future and will form a natural woodland for year to come. This will help to protect local tree species for the future and of course can contribute to a healthy ecosystem.
At Green End watch out for our resident Tawny Owl. With the help of a local expert we have installed 2 x owl boxes. In 2023 we had our first tawny owlets born at the farm.
